Marla Kraus joined SNAP as the Executive Director in 1999. Prior to becoming Executive Director, she was one of SNAP's original Board members. Marla uses her many skills and expertise that she honed as an advocate for her son, Sammy, who had special needs, to help thousands of families across the country through educational forums, networking and one-on-one consultations.
”The greatest satisfaction I get from my job is when I relieve some of the burden and the stress from parents who have a child or children with special needs,” says Marla.
Marla earned her J.D. from Loyola University of Law in Los Angeles, received a M.A. in Applied Psychology from the University of Santa Monica as well as her A.B. from the University of California at Berkeley. She is licensed to practice law in California. During her legal career, she also worked as a mediator, an attorney for a local governmental agency and a criminal defense attorney.
Marla has been instrumental in creating SNAP’s Medical Insurance Empowerment Program that provides creative problem-solving and ideas for resolution of private medical insurance issues.
